Operation: Back Pack

Each year, Dr. Chad McIntyre at Triad Upper Cervical Clinic runs a school supply drive for the students at Kernersville Elementary School (KES). KES is classified as a Title 1 School, which means that over 75% of its students fall below the poverty level. This leaves many students without the necessary supplies for learning. When Dr. McIntyre opened his office in 2010, he learned of their need and began the drive that same year. He has been collecting each year for 13 years, and each year he hopes to outdo his previous year’s number.

Last year brought an unprecedented outpouring of support. The final tally of backpacks with supplies was 350. This was made possible through monetary donations amounting to $2500 as well as those who brought in backpacks with supplies. Dr. Chad, his wife Tabatha, and their kids, Jordan, Quinn, Kylie, and Caleb really enjoy purchasing the supplies on behalf of those who contributed financially. Overall, Triad Upper Cervical Clinic's patients, members of the community, and the McIntyre family have donated over 2500 backpacks full of school supplies to Kernersville Elementary School since 2010.

Operation Backpack is Dr. McIntyre’s favorite event of the year because so many of his patients participate, even those who live outside the Triad, such as Burlington, Salisbury and Virginia. Seeing so many people give so freely leaves a mark of inspiration not only with KES, but Triad Upper Cervical Clinic, as well. With this year’s numbers, Dr. McIntyre will be talking about this drive for a long time.

The Giving Tree

Each year, Dr. Chad and his patients sponsor families from Kernersville Elementary School with an Angel/Giving Tree.  Patients either donate money or select a gift tag off of the office Christmas Tree that lists a specific child, their age, and their gift request. It's very, very rewarding to make a child's Christmas special.
